The idea came from an event we went to in 2017 in Leicester - Making and Mending Festival. There were heaps of activities happening there, from upcycling pallets to igloo building with milk cartons. There was a room full of sewing machines busily making bags and bunting from old clothes. There were household gadgets being fixed and old computers being revived with Linux Open-Source software.
We thought that Machynlleth was just the right place to hold a similar Festival, so Cymhorthfa Repair&Share was born, we booked Y Plas hall and several hundred people came along - it was a success! This venture is facilitated in collaboration with ecodyfi. |
Before Covid, we planned two Cymhorthfa Fairs every year. The main one in May/June These big events included: - Repair Cafe, computer advice, fixing/upgrading, clothes mending, clothes upcycling, bag making, Toy Hospital, bike maintenance and bike-swap, Seedling Swap, garden tools mending/sharpening, book swap, Wooden pallet upcycling, Food 'surplus' catering... and more.
We had also planned regular monthly smaller Repair Cafes which happened til Lockdowns happened. We have now revived these and teamed up with Repair Cafe Wales. |
